Features of Rainbow Mantis Shrimp

• Native habitat: coral reef flats and sandy burrows of the Indo-Pacific
• Maximum size: approximately 15–18 cm in length
• Lifespan: 5–8 years with proper marine care
• Temperament: highly territorial and aggressive; best kept alone

The Best Aquarium Size for Rainbow Mantis Shrimp

A minimum aquarium size of 120 litres is recommended for a single adult Rainbow Mantis Shrimp. A species-only setup is strongly advised. The aquarium should include a deep sand bed and stable rockwork to allow natural burrowing behaviour. Thick glass or acrylic tanks are recommended due to the shrimp’s powerful strike.

Diet for Rainbow Mantis Shrimp

Rainbow Mantis Shrimp are carnivorous predators that feed on crustaceans, molluscs, and small marine animals in the wild. In the aquarium, offer a varied diet of:
• Raw prawns
• Mussels and clams (in shell to promote natural smashing behaviour)
• Crabs
• Marine fish pieces

Feeding 2–3 times per week is generally sufficient. Avoid overfeeding to maintain water quality.
