Tinfoil Barb

The Tinfoil Barb is a freshwater fish which comes from Thailand, the Malayan Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo. They inhabit large waterways including rivers, streams, canals, and ditches and will enter flooded fields to spawn and feed. Tinfoil Barbs grow very large and will swim in all areas of the aquarium. They need a school of 5 or more of their own kind and a very large tank to accommodate them.

  • Tinfoil barbs hardly have any gender discriminating traits in their appearance
  • A silver body with a silver to gold sheen
  • Orange to red fins and tail
  • Care level: Easy
  • Occupy the mid-level and bottom areas of the tank
  • They are active swimmers, and skilled jumpers

Despite their size, tinfoil barbs are a peaceful fish with an easy-going temperament. They do best when kept in groups of five or more. If kept as a single fish or too small a group, some bullying behavior can occur. Avoid slow-moving or shy fish.
